Resident Elective Rotation

Residents in other specialties are invited to rotate with us for two or four weeks.

During this time, the resident manages about three patients in the Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU) at UC Irvine Medical Center. The ARU is a 14-bed acute rehabilitation unit that manages patients after brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, polytrauma, acute neurological disorders, and amputation.

The resident participates in daily rounds with the attending physician and PM&R residents and observes consults with the Rehabilitation Service. The resident is expected to present a topic at the end of the rotation. This elective rotation allows residents to view the daily ins and outs of an inpatient rehabilitation service.

We recommend scheduling your elective rotation 60 to 90 days in advance. This is due to availability and to allow processing of all required paperwork.
